In these reviews I try to give you a feeling of the experience, not so much a standard review of the storyline, but rather if it's worth watching, if it takes you away from the world around you for a short period of time. The X-Files: I Want to Believe PG-13 Viewed on 08/03/08 Was nice to see Gillian Anderson, otherwise wait for the dvd and prepare for a slow, painful hour and forty minutes. Pretty much pick any episode of the TV show and this is what you get. Really expected a better effort on the big screen. |

Fantastic Four PG-13 07/09/05 - Viewed in theater 07/08/05 - Released This movie could have been so great however it was a great disappointment. The story was more of a love story than anything and not a very good one. There was almost zero identifying with the characters and for a 2 hour movie there should have been a lot more development. I just didn't care about these characters one bit. It was sad as I expected so much more. Ben Grimm was the whole movie and really the only thing that was worth seeing. My recommendation is to wait for the rental if not the TV release. |

Alone in the Dark R 02/00/05 - Viewed in theater 01/28/05 - Released Well this was a real dud. The only thing possibly worse than the story and direction was the acting, but I should have know that when I saw Tara Reid was in it. Poor Christian Slater must have been blackmailed into this ridiculous movie. My first tip off should have been that there was only one other person in the theater, and he left about a quarter of the way through. This one should have been straight to cable if not the trash can. |

Million Dollar Baby PG-13 02/00/05 - Viewed in theater 12/15/04 - Released This is one of the best movies I have ever seen, unfortunately it is also perhaps the saddest movie I have ever seen. At first I felt betrayed that I didnt get the usual warm happily ever after ending we are so accustomed to, but quickly appreciated the ending I was delt. This is an absolute must see in my book, a true two thumbs up here. Just be sure to take some kleenex. |

Assault on Precinct 13 R 01/12/05 - Viewed in theater Well the original was a much better movie that's for certain. This was a fun movie to see but bit of a let down. When i see a remake I would expect more than what we were given. This was a bit boring, and the ineptness of the SWAT team was silly at best. I'd wait for this as Im sure it will be quick to rental shelves. All in all though it was enjoyable. |

Elektra PG-13 01/14/05 - Viewed in theater Jennifer Garner was the saving grace of this film if there was to be one. As a huge Jennifer Garner fan she is the only thing that kept this movie going, and still it was quite disappointing how they used her. They made her far too serious and almost a parody of her Alias character. Second her character development was far too rushed so you never quite get the feeling you know what's going on with her. You really look at this film and get a feeling that its just falling short, with so many good actors and seemingly big budget you just expect more. There were some great action scenes and nice special effects, but you just feel like it seems to drag on and on and they just seem to be leaving a key part out, that magical part that makes you feel like your part of the whole experience. As much as I wanted this to work it just doesn't, I would definitely suggest that you wait for the rental... |

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou R 12/31/04 - Viewed in theater This one will make you laugh, make you cry, make you wonder whats going on. You get a sense your part of something but cant really put your finger on it, then when you think you have it, wham you dont know where this ones going next. This movie has it all, Pirates, high seas adventure, kidnapping, daring resues, murder, mystery, love. It is unlike any movie in recent memory. Outstanding preformances by a great cast. This movie leaves you with a good feeling! Go see it while it's in the theater! |

Flight of the Pheonix PG-13 12/18/04 - Viewed in theater From the previews you might mistake this for an action film, however I think they took all the action and then some and squeezed it into the 60 second preview. This was more a struggle of the human spirit for survial type movie, it was well done and looked nice, however it was rather slow and uneventful. I would much rather have waited for the video on this one. |

It didnt really have any sense bringing you into the film. It was fun a little boring and predictable. I'd much rather have saved the $ and waited for the rental. The title Bad Lieutenant is really an understatement as we watch this NYPD detective, drug/gambling addict spiral into the depths of a darkness rarely seen. When you watch this you just stare at the screen dumbfounded and amazed at what your watching. |

The problem here is Van Damme tried to get a little too far from his roots and act a little too much however it is still ok for a 99 cent rental. |
